Dear Jackie,
I am happy to report that our CAO and Deputy Director, Kathryn Huss has agreed to make the an exception and to make the Museum available for teaching the Dermatology medical students on August, and specifically on Monday, the 7th in the morning.
As you know, one issue is that the Museum is not open on Mondays: as soon as I can I will get you the costs for security.
Also with so many students, I will need to use docent as well as staff teachers. It may be that during this summer month that will be difficult as our docents work only if they wish in the summer (their required service is September through early June). By planning so far in advance, I hope this will not be an issue.
It may be that we need to divide the group in two (so two groups of 85) in order to achieve the small groups for teaching essential to the purpose and outcomes you desire.
We would have other spaces such as our Multipurpose Room or Auditorium should there be other first day activities which could be done here at UMMA while group 1 has the gallery experiences and then switch.
All this depends on our plan which I will probably be able to flesh out in more detail this summer.
I hope that meets your time frame.
For the moment, I will reserve UMMA meeting rooms and galleries for the Dermatology Dept. on Monday, August 7th, 2017 from 8 am to noon.
Please let me know if you have any other questions right now or if that is not the right time frame. I am allowing four hours in case we have to run two groups sequentially rather than all 170 at a time.
We are excited about the opportunity to work with Dermatology and to contribute to Medical Education at the University of Michigan,
Best wishes,
Ruth
